“In The Grass”

These beautiful bull elk, in their velvet, were peacefully chewing their cud, just waiting for me to come along with my new 500 mm mirror telescopic lens. There were four of them in a row, and I caught the two closest ones in this view, focusing on the antlers of the near elk while blurring the one in the background (some people don’t even notice him).

I love to use selective focus, focusing the way your eye does (on one distance at a time, leaving everything else out-of-focus). This gives me a very dramatic print, showing depth and looking like you’re actually there.
